I have to agree with you, Linda, that I prefer getting to know the characters more through their thoughts. In a non-stop action story, there just isn't time for that.

The way it affects me is to reduce the suspense. I found it interesting that some of the guys said they were on the edge of their seats. I never felt that concerned.

It felt a lot like watching the Bourne Identity. Not reading the book, but seeing the movie.
